Festo Support Community is a forum for technical questions

Festo has opened a new forum on its website, called the Festo Support Community, to give Festo customers easy access to technical support and help each other solve problems and troubleshoot system designs. A product of the Technical Hotline team at Festo, the Support Community allows users to post technical questions online and respond to other users’ questions. This gives members the opportunity to explain issues, ask questions and contribute to discussion threads.

Quick and easy to use, it is available 24 hours a day and is moderated by the Festo Technical Support team.

The forum is organized into six searchable topic areas:

• General information
• Pneumatics
• Electrical Drives
• Process Automation
• Sensors and Vision
• Directives and Standards

A variety of subtopics are provided under each category. For example, on the Pneumatics category, users can post questions on actuators, valves and valve terminals, air preparation, vacuum, and tubes and fittings. Questions can be basic, such as what type of cylinder to use in a particular application, to more advanced, such as how to address problems that arise during actual system design and application.

In less than two months, more than 600 questions have been posted. Currently, most replies have been by members of the Festo team, but I think a forum like this would thrive even more if there were an open dialog between engineers about their system designs and advice as well as a channel for users to communicate with Festo engineers. If you’re using Festo components or ones similar to them, this site could be a valuable tool. Check it out now.
