2011 in review
When 2011 started, I would have expected that the triennial IFPE show would have been the talk of the year. And the show was an impressive one, with more than 400 exhibitors, 100,000+ attendees at the combined co-located shows (including CONEXPO and CON/AGG) and a wonderful technical conference. But what I find perhaps most significant for the industry was how three of the main fluid power organizations came together in a joint effort to discuss efficiency.
New technical standards available from NFPA
Three new technical documents have recently been published and are now available from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA): Fluid power connectors and associated components – Nominal outside diameters of tubes and nominal hose sizes; Pneumatic fluid power – Cylinders – Single-rod short-stroke cylinders, 1 000 kPa (10 bar) series, bores from 20 mm to 100 mm; and Hydraulic fluid power – Pressure switches – Mounting surfaces (second edition).
NFPA webcast series to look at improving system design
The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) will present a series of webcasts to focus on key issues facing the fluid power industry today.
Fluid power energy efficiency conference is a hit
Jon Jensen of SMC, Immediate Past President of the International Fluid Power Society, opened up the first Energy Efficient Hydraulics and Pneumatics Conference at the Sheraton Chicago O’Hare Airport Hotel on Tuesday. Jensen explained that the registered attendance was 107, an excellent showing for a first-time event.
NFPA releases June shipments/orders for pneumatic products
The latest pneumatic, mobile and industrial hydraulic orders information has been released through June 2011 by the National Fluid Power Association.
NFPA Education and Technology Foundation awards major grant
The NFPA Education and Technology Foundation has awarded a major research grant to Dr. Brian Steward and the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State University.
NFPA releases April data on pneumatic orders, shipments
The NFPA has released the latest hydraulic and pneumatic industry trending data through April 2011. Mobile hydraulics continues to outpace other segments of the industry and shipment levels are nearly back to their pre-recession levels.
NFPA, IFPS, FPDA to launch conference on energy efficiency
Three leading fluid power organizations—the International Fluid Power Society, the FPDA Motion and Control Network, and the National Fluid Power Association—will be hosting an educational conference at Sheraton Chicago O’Hare Airport Hotel on November 15-17, 2011.
NCFP Technical Proceedings available from NFPA
The Proceedings of the 52nd National Conference on Fluid Power (NCFP) are now available from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA). The papers contained in the volume were presented during the IFPE Technical Conference hosted by NFPA and held in conjunction with IFPE 2011.
