Norgren’s IVAC cuts energy cost by half

IMI Norgren has created the IVAC system (integrated valve and actuator control) — a series of integrated pneumatic cylinders, which combine sensors, cushioning, flow controls and valves in one actuator package to reduce energy costs and air consumption by up to 50 percent.

Unlike conventional pneumatic controls, the IVAC system is user-friendly and eliminates the need for multiple components, accessories, tubing and valve islands since it features only one electrical and one pneumatic connection.

Measuring from 40 mm to 80 mm, the IVAC actuator integrates magnetically operated switches and valves. It can also be retrofitted to existing machines or used in new systems.

The IVAC system is also easy to install, operate and replace. It also reduces the time spent on commissioning and maintenance as well as the costs, leading to higher productivity.

Meanwhile, the “dead” volume is decreased by eliminating the air piping between the actuators and valves. This reduces air consumption by up to 50 percent and the cost per mm of stroke compared to traditional pneumatic systems. Norgren claims that IVAC’s cost-effective features can save enough energy within one year to recoup its cost.

IVAC’s variants include easy wash down versions as well as clean line versions for industrial cylinders and industrial slave cylinders. These variations help original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) to comply with hygiene regulations.

The system also conforms to the most recent ISO VDMA dimensions so there is no need to change the mechanical design.  Moreover, the IVAC’s single M12 connection for input and output can be plugged into a variety of fieldbus systems.
