Norgren redundant valve manifold system provides pneumatic directional control

IMI Norgren (www.norgren.com) has developed a simplified valve manifold that features visual pressure indicators, two SIL (safety integrity level) valves in redundant mode and a SIL rated bypass valve that offers a lock out feature.

Designed to monitor and provide process valves with pneumatic directional control, the company’s valve manifold system can be installed near the process valve it controls. It also features robust valves that meet IEC 61 508 and ANSI 84 safety integrity standards, making them ideal for safety instrumented system (SIS).

In addition, the valves have been specifically packed for redundancy, such that if one of the valves fails another one will continue to safely regulate the function of the process valves. The system’s direct-acting two SIL 3 redundant valves eliminate the need for minimum air pressure to properly function.

Meanwhile, the simple manifold is equipped with four visual indicators – with each unit showing one of two possible colors. The indicators’ color sequence makes it easy for operators to determine if the unit is properly working or if there is a problem.

To reduce downtime, the company has also fitted the system with a bypass valve which allows safe servicing even while the system or process continues. Thus, in case a malfunction is detected, the operator can conveniently fix the problem without disrupting the operation of the system.

Finally, the modular design of the manifold enables it to be used with various SIL applications for instrument air directional control, to effectively provide a reliable, simple and cost-effective solution.
