Nexmatix joins the “smart factory” movement with sensor-enabled valve

Nexmatix, which launched its energy-saving pneumatic valves last year, plans to reveal a major evolution in pneumatic valve technology at Pack Expo East (Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, February 27 through March 1). Combining the real-time smarts of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) with the sustainability of a green platform, the company said these new valves have the potential to revolutionize the way factories run.

Nexmaxtix has updated its energy-efficient pneumatic valve (pictured here is the original model without sensor) with a sensor for data collection and monitoring.

Noting the high cost many factory owners face due to compressed air leaks throughout their plants — not to mention the frustration and time it takes to locate those leaks — Nexmatix developed control valves equipped with embedded sensors to continuously monitor for leaks, valve faults, and pressure faults.

Dubbed “Pneumatics with a brain,” the valves feature an on-board sensor that deliver a stream of real-time data to help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) run smarter machines and help end users reduce energy cost. The company’s line of ISO valves feature with a unique body and spool configuration to reduce compressed air used in actuation by 20 to 40%.

“What makes this technology so exciting is that our valves don’t require any additional components – it’s all embedded in the valve,” said Vicki Gonzalez, CEO of Nexmatix. “Plus, our smart valves not only monitor data but perform the analytics too, continuously. You don’t need an initial baseline to compare, nor do you need to take your data to the cloud for analytics. In fact, we designed our smart valves with LEDs that flash when there is a fault so you don’t need a sophisticated data collection system to start implementing your smart factory strategy. All end-users need to do is take control of their control valves. And we work closely with OEMs to ensure it’s a three-way partnership and everyone benefits.”

This platform is relevant across a variety of industries, and the ease of adoption adds to the appeal. “Today’s OEMs, factory owners, and end users deserve smart technology like Nexmatix,” said Scott Miller, a strategist with more than three decades of experience with insurgent technology and a client list that includes Apple Computer, Verizon, Google, Coca-Cola and Microsoft. “We expect our phones to be smart and our homes to be smart. We should expect the same from our factories, and that’s where Nexmatix enters the picture, with its game-changing implications for cost savings and heightened sustainability. This is the future of pneumatics.”
