When 2011 started, I would have expected that the triennial IFPE show would have been the talk of the year. And the show was an impressive one, with more than 400 exhibitors, 100,000+ attendees at the combined co-located shows (including CONEXPO and CON/AGG) and a wonderful technical conference. But what I find perhaps most significant for the industry was how three of the main fluid power organizations came together in a joint effort to discuss efficiency.

New technical standards available from NFPA
Three new technical documents have recently been published and are now available from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA): Fluid power connectors and associated components – Nominal outside diameters of tubes and nominal hose sizes; Pneumatic fluid power – Cylinders – Single-rod short-stroke cylinders, 1 000 kPa (10 bar) series, bores from 20 mm to 100 mm; and Hydraulic fluid power – Pressure switches – Mounting surfaces (second edition).
NFPA webcast series to look at improving system design
The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) will present a series of webcasts to focus on key issues facing the fluid power industry today.
Simrit’s piston sealing systems reduce friction
Simrit, the industrial sealing division of Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies, has developed three new piston seals that reduce friction and lower energy consumption in applications like mechanical transmissions and pneumatic cylinders.
Energy isolation for washdown applications
Building on its rugged Stainless Steel L-O-X lockout and exhaust valve, ROSS Controls is now offering a control reliable energy isolation solution specifically designed for sensitive washdown applications.
Highly scalable valve manifold offers value, performance
The Festo MPA-L valve manifold offers a mix of value and performance. It is scalable down to a single valve slice, so directional valves can be adapted to any application. This saves costs and reduces size.
New bag lips designed to handle bags and pouches
Piab has launched a variety of new parts specifically designed for the piGRIP suction cup, the first modular suction cup on the market. Available in three diameters, the new piGRIP Bag Lip has been developed to handle bags and pouches more efficiently than any other available suction cup on the market.
