Series 9109 air bellows from Parker Hannifin Corp are designed specifically for applications that require short stroke, high trust single acting actuators. The air bellows are manufactured from fabric reinforced synthetic rubber, which has one, two or three convolutions depending on the model and stroke.
Compared with other conventional pneumatic cylinders, Series 9109 air bellows provide a frictionless thrust as no reciprocating metal parts are incorporated within it. All models of the air bellows are only single-acting.
The natural spring action of the bellows provide the return stroke but more usually through the load itself.
With the simplicity as well as the flexibility of construction of Series 9109 air bellows, mounting is less critical compared with the other usual pneumatic cylinders requiring rigid fixing and guidance and provides only one axis within a limit of 15° between faces.
The air bellows come in steel or aluminum end plates, of which the axial location can be set off up to 10 mm.
The Series 9109 air bellows are the ideal choice for vibration applications, which are device feeders at high frequency. Various applications include scissor lift, hopper vibration and damping, reel tensioning, platform lift and mechanical isolation.
Air bellows follow the line of leased resistance when pressurized and needs proper mounting geometry in angled applications. When depressurized, air bellows fit in to small spaces, which are useful for moving or clamping very heavy or awkwardly shaped loads.
When using the air bellow in operation, it is recommended that the unit should not reach its maximum height or the so-called “bottom out” which can be done using various mechanical devices.
