This digital pressure transducer suits weather observation applications in extreme environmental conditionsSetra Systems, Inc. released their newly enhanced model 470T digital pressure transducer for clean dry air and gases. The Model 470T now features an improved compensated temperature range of -20 to 65°C (-4 to 150 °F) and operating temperature range of -40 to 75°C (-40 to 167°F). These wider temperature ranges make the 470T particularly well suited for weather observation applications, which operate in extreme environmental conditions and experience wide swings in temperature.

The 470T is a versatile microprocessor based instrument which utilizes Setra’s Setraceram (TM) sensor, advanced digital electronic circuitry and sophisticated firmware. All combine to give a system accuracy of better than +0.02% full scale, in pressure ranges from 0 to 10, 20, 50, and 100 psia; 600 to 1100 mbar or 800 to 1100 mbar.

Equipped with a bi-directional RS232C digital communications I/O port for computer access, hi and lo alarm setpoints, zero/tare functions, and min/max value tracking, the 470T has applications in Automatic Weather Observations Systems (AWOS), Barometric Pressure Compensation for Wavelength of Laser Beams, Pressure Transfer Standard, Altimeter Calibration Recertification, Lab or Production Process Monitoring, Altitude chambers, and Weather Data Buoys.

Air Preperation Unit Allows Oil Mist To Travel Up To 40m

Air preperation unit allows oil mist to travel faster than traditional lubricatorsParker Hannifin  is releasing a new product into its air preparation systemts.  Moduflex Lite systems combine lightweight and corrosion-resistant construction with nano lubrication technology that allows oil mist to travel up to 40m along the air line as opposed to a maximum of only 15m with more traditional lubricators. This makes it easier and more affordable to optimise the efficiency, productivity and reliability of pneumatic applications.

Moduflex Lite systems are made from upscale technopolymers, so they are highly corrosion-resistant and up to 45 per cent lighter than conventional alternatives. An injection moulded body results in improvements to the system’s internal flow paths, providing flow performance up to 30 per cent better than similarly sized units. Moduflex Lite systems can therefore often be used to replace larger, more expensive units.

The nano lubricator supplies a constant, extremely fine oil mist that improves system lubrication while extending the intervals between refills and reducing oil consumption. Furthermore, the ability to extend the distance between the lubricator and pneumatic equipment from 8m up to 40m opens up many new opportunities for efficient system design.

Moduflex Lite units feature a universal bowl that is chemically resistant and suitable for a wide range of applications. This allows users to lower their costs and simplify stock management with a single multi-purpose system. Additionally, the system’s innovative technopolymer construction enables it to withstand aggressive media and environments, making it versatile and enabling synthetic oils and glycol-based anti-freeze to be used.

Double Eccentric Butterfly Valves Available in 14-16 in.

GF Piping Systems has announced expansion of its large diameter size range for the Type 567 Butterfly Valve to include sizes 14-16″. The new size range features a unique double eccentric off-center design and excellent chemical compatibility. Suitable applications include landfills where large size valves are required for drainage of underground leachate. Other applications include industrial water treatment, potable water treatment, swimming pools, water parks and waste water systems in such industries as chemical, chemical distribution, electroplating and power plants.

The 567 Valve’s unique double eccentric design features an off-center shaft that allows the disc to completely disengage from the disc seal, even when partially open. This results in reduced seal friction for longer service life and minimal maintenance compared to non-eccentric valve styles. The double eccentric design requires only about half the torque of a traditional boot design, which decreases wear on the disc seal to further enhance product life. Other advantages of this design include easier manual operation, compatibility with smaller actuators for reduced installation cost, and better protection against pressure surges.

The new large size valve features industry-standard ISO flange mount for easy electric or pneumatic actuation with most actuators. Other features include bi-directional capability, pressure rating of 90 psi at 70°F, and hand wheel. The valve is available with either EPDM or FPM seals, 304 or 316 Stainless Steel stem, and a Polypropylene body.

Leadership in Engineering

This is the 3rd annual Leadership event announcing the winners in the 2009 Leadership Awards Program. The Design World User Community have cast their votes and we are pleased to announce the winners.

ADVANCED MATERIALS

Da/Pro Rubber is a custom manufacturer of precision rubber, TPE, and plastic molding products. The proprietary Da/Pro process adjusts for rubber compound and rubber part configuration variables so that it can produce high tolerance parts of consistent quality. The company offers complete in-house capabilities from design for moldability, rubber compound development, lab testing, mold construction, subassembly, and quality assurance.

Digital Manufacturing

Proto Labs’ quick-turn Protomold® injection molding and First Cut® CNC machining services are the fastest in the world at providing design engineers with real parts based on their 3D CAD models. We achieved this unique ability by applying proprietary software and parallel processing technologies to the automation of standard manufacturing processes, so engineers can finally have it all : real parts in as little as one day.

Electrical & Electronic

Since 1976, Glenn Taylor’s vision of an enterprising engineer has been our guiding force. Our goal is to design and manufacture standard industrial control products that meet or exceed customer and industry specifications for quality and operation. We engineer more features, more functions and more flexibility into our products, and we are able to offer a lifetime warranty for them.

Fastening & Joining

Bal Seal Engineering, Inc.’s original product was a plastic ring with a groove to house a coiled spring. Today, the company’s patented canted coil spring energized PTFE is at the core of its product offerings. Test & Measurement

Omega is a major US company that manufacturers more than 80% of its product offerings in house ─ and this percentage is continuously increasing. At a time when “outsourcing” seems to be the foundation of many US manufacturers, Omega Engineering, headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, remains a notable exception. Omega enjoys this leadership position because it strongly advocates process automation to achieve high productivity and create quality products. When commercial equipment is used, in-house automation handles the input and output processes. Omega’s automation engineers are among the most talented, and it has invested substantially in the model shops and labs needed to support them. Working with an equally talented staff of software engineers, they produce a wide range of custom automation equipment.
